From Concussion to Comeback: David Edwards’ Journey with Neurofeedback

NFL offensive lineman David Edwards knows what it’s like to push through adversity on the field. But after suffering a severe concussion in 2022, he faced a challenge unlike any before. Despite seeing specialists around the country, his symptoms—dizziness, vision problems, memory lapses, and severe sleep struggles—wouldn’t go away. “I felt completely out of control,” he recalls. “I was taking huge amounts of melatonin just to fall asleep, and I wasn’t getting better.”

Through his longtime work with sports psychologist Dr. Carrie Hastings, David was introduced to neuroscientist Bryan Hixson for an EEG brain map. The results gave him clarity: his brainwaves showed clear disruptions that explained the symptoms he was experiencing. “For the first time, everything made sense,” David said. “It was like seeing an X-ray of a broken bone—you finally understand why you’re hurting.”

That’s when he turned to neurofeedback. For him, the process wasn’t about masking symptoms—it was about retraining his brain. “It was like physical therapy, but for my brain,” David explained. “Every session helped strengthen the right connections and calm the overactive ones that were keeping me stuck.”

The journey wasn’t overnight, but the progress was undeniable. Over time, David began to notice changes in his focus, mood, and energy. “I felt like my brain was finally working with me instead of against me,” he said. “It gave me a clearer mind, better balance, and honestly, hope again. It saved my career as a football player,” he said, “but more importantly, it saved my ability to be a dad, a husband, a brother, and a son.”

Today, as a veteran with the Buffalo Bills, David continues to thrive both on and off the field—proof that with the right care, recovery and resilience are possible. David shares his story to inspire others who might feel trapped in their symptoms.

“I want people to know there’s a way forward. Neurofeedback gave me my life back—it retrained my brain the same way you’d rehab an injured knee or shoulder. If it can help me, it can help anyone.”
